Bob Hope Christmas Specials (1961-1973)

1961   USO Xmas Show from the Caribbean. Bob Hope’s guests are Andy Williams, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Janis Paige, Jerry Colonna and Anita Bryant.

1962  From Newfoundland, Labrador, Baffin Island, and Greenland. Bob Hope makes his annual tour to entertain service personnel at Christmastime. Appearing with Bob are Jayne Mansfield, Jerry Colonna, Dorothy Provine, Anita Bryant, Peter Leeds and Miss World Rosemarie Frankland. Highlights: Dorothy Provine sings and dances with Bob to the tune of “I’m In Love With You.” Jerry and Bob play a couple of beatniks hitting on the girls. Bob and Jayne are in a very funny “Romeo and Juliet” sketch. Anita Bryant sings “Silent Night.” Original Broadcast Date: Sunday 8:00 PM Jan 24, 1962 on NBC

1964  Tuesday Weld banters with Bob, Anita Bryant leads all in singing Silent Night, and John Bubbles Tap dances. Bob and Miss USA Michele Metrinko provide a comic exchange and a dance performance is conducted by the identical Earl Twins.

1965  Bob Hope and company embark on their 1964 Christmas tour going from the freezing cold of Korea to the tropical heat of Thailand. Jill St. John demonstrates the latest dance moves and Anita Bryant serenades two soldiers.

1966  Bob Hope, Kaye Stevens and Jerry Colonna poke fun at military “Sick Call.” Jack Jones sings Wives and Lovers. Sen. Stuart Symington of Missouri reads a telegram to the troops from Pres. Lyndon Johnson. The Nicholas Brothers tap dance.

1967  Bob Hope and Phyllis Diller trade jokes, Bob Hope and Joey Heatherton do a song and dance, Anita Bryant sings Battle Hymn of the Republic, the Rev. Billy Graham gives service members a pep talk, and Dolores Hope sings White Christmas.

1968  Bob Hope and Raquel Welch perform a comical medley of You Make Me Feel So Young/You’re An Old Smoothie, Bob and Raquel also perform a comedy sketch, and Barbara McNair sings Silent Night..

1969  Bob Hope brings his USO Christmas tour to Vietnam, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Midway, and aboard the USS Hancock and the USS New Jersey in the South China Sea. Dick Albers does his comic trampoline act, Bob Hope and former professional football player Rosey Grier trade barbs, and the Golddiggers dance on deck for the crews of two passing destroyers. At Okinawa, a skydiver parachutes into the audience and Ann-Margret exhorts members of the different services to stand up during her performance. Bob does mail call for the troops—inviting one service member (whose mother says he’s a good singer) to perform—and Gen. Creighton Abrams thanks the entire cast and crew for coming to Vietnam. Starring Hope, Dick Albers, Ann-Margret, Linda Bennett, Rosey Grier, Miss World Penny Plummer, The Golddiggers, Honey Ltd., Les Brown and His Band of Renown.

1970  Bob Hope sings to Miss World Eva Rueber-Staier. Connie Stevens invites four service members named Bill onstage to serenade with Wedding Bell Blues. Astronaut Neil Armstrong answers questions about being the first man on the moon.

1971  Bob Hope and Lola Falana sing and dance. Bob brings Ursula Andress, Gloria Loring and Miss World Jennifer Hosten onstage. Cincinnati Reds catcher Johnny Bench trades zingers with Bob.

1972    Don Ho and His Wahinis perform Tiny Bubbles, Bob Hope delivers his topical stand-up, and jests with Jill St. John, pitcher Vida Blue, and astronaut Alan Shepard.

1973  Pro footballer Merlin Olsen plays Santa Claus. Bob performs a “fatigue version of Sanford and Son” with Redd Foxx. Rudy Cardenas’ does show-stopping juggling. Bob dances and sings with Lola Falana, and jokes with L.A. Rams quarterback Roman Gabriel.
